119 Migrants Airlifted from Lampedusa to Rome Amid Ongoing Arrivals

On 27 July 2026, 119 migrants were transferred from the primary reception centre on Lampedusa to Rome on an International Organization for Migration (OIM) flight. The total number of people housed on the island was 166, leaving 47 individuals still in the hotspot at Contrada Imbriacola. Arrivals have been stalled for several days because rough seas have prevented further landings.

The operation highlights continued pressure on Italy’s migrant reception system and the logistical challenges of moving large groups from the remote island to mainland facilities.
