Mãe Rainha das Trevas erects 11‑meter Devil statue in Ceará
A 11‑metre tall statue honoring the Devil was installed on a private farm in the Taíba district of São Gonçalo do Amarante, Ceará. The monument, which the builder – a self‑identified witch known as Mãe Rainha das Trevas – says cost more than R$ 100 000, was unveiled on 25 July during the 29th anniversary of the Palácio Estrela Negra da Quimbanda temple.
The municipality confirmed that the construction received the required environmental licence and building permit, and that the work complied with local urban‑planning regulations. An engineer handled the design, but the claim that it is the world’s largest Devil statue has not been independently verified.
Mãe Rainha das Trevas emphasized her right to religious freedom, asking the public to respect her faith while she exercised her personal property rights to fund the project entirely from her own resources.
