13-year-old rescued from Jacksonville motel after being kidnapped from Georgia

A 13-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted in Georgia was located and rescued on July 16 from a motel on Philips Highway in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office SWAT team worked with the FBI and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to track the victim to the motel, more than 130 miles from the original abduction site.

When officers entered the room, suspect Jonathon Kelly, 42, fled in a vehicle, nearly colliding with a SWAT vehicle before crashing into the motel. Giovannie Carter, 32, was also arrested. Both are facing multiple charges pending further investigation. The girl is now receiving resources and support after the "traumatic ordeal," according to the sheriff’s office.
