14-year-old girl killed in gang shootout in Virrey del Pino, Argentina

A 14-year-old girl, Candela Abigail Urquiza, was fatally shot and her 50‑year‑old mother, Blanca Urquiza, severely wounded during a gun battle between rival drug‑selling gangs in the Virrey del Pino district of La Matanza, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. The exchange occurred on Thursday afternoon near Cabot Street after members of one gang, driving a white Ford EcoSport, opened fire on a house used as a drug‑selling bunker; the opposing gang returned fire, and the victims, walking on the sidewalk, were hit.

Police launched an operation, carried out raids, seized the vehicle and identified several suspects, with four people already linked to the shooting. The victims were taken to Hospital Simplemente Evita; the girl was pronounced dead at the scene, and the mother remains in critical condition after a gunshot to the neck. Investigations are ongoing under the direction of the local prosecutor's office.
