14-year-old Stabs Father in Recife Over Alleged Roblox Challenge

Police in Pernambuco arrested a 14-year-old after he assaulted his 43-year-old father with a knife in the western zone of Recife. The father was wounded while sleeping on a sofa, received medical treatment and was discharged. The teenager told investigators he had been dared by other users of the online gaming platform Roblox to attack his father and then take his own life, and that he recorded the act for the virtual group. Authorities are examining the boy’s devices, messages and other digital content to determine whether the attack was influenced by third parties online. Because of his age, the adolescent will be placed in a socio‑educational facility under the state’s child‑protection statutes while the civil police continue the investigation.
