Three Moldovan Minors Die in Separate Drowning Accidents Over 24 Hours
Three children lost their lives in water‑related accidents in the Republic of Moldova within a 24‑hour period.
At 20:56 on 25 June, a 10‑year‑old girl drowned in a pond near the village of Ochiul Alb, Drochia district. A friend rescued her body from the water.
Shortly after, at 20:44, a 17‑year‑old male slipped into a fire‑fighting water reservoir near Soltănești, Nisporeni district. His companion, who could not swim, called for help; despite rescue attempts the teenager died.
Later the same day a 13‑year‑old girl was found dead in a pond in the city of Soroca after swimming unsupervised with her younger brother.
The National Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) reiterated that unsupervised swimming of minors in unregulated water bodies is prohibited and a major safety risk, urging parents and caregivers to ensure constant adult supervision and to use only designated, supervised swimming sites.
