17‑year‑old Nicolas Caliendo dies after motorcycle crash near Carpi, Italy

On July 10, 17‑year‑old Nicolas Caliendo of Rolo (Reggio Emilia) was riding his Yamaha 125 along the Strada Provinciale Romana Nord between Carpi and Novi when he left the road and fell into a roadside ditch. He was found unconscious by his parents, who had searched the road after noticing his absence, and emergency services – fire brigade, ambulance and a helicopter – transported him to the hospital in Bologna.

Caliendo remained in critical condition for eleven days. On July 22, doctors declared him dead. His parents have consented to organ donation. Local police continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the crash.
