Brescia placed under red heat alert as temperatures near 38°C

The Italian Ministry of Health has issued a level‑3 red alert for Brescia, the highest tier in the national heat‑wave warning system. Forecasts predict daytime temperatures of up to 35 °C on Tuesday, rising to 36 °C on Wednesday with perceived heat reaching roughly 38 °C, while nighttime lows are expected to stay around 26 °C.

Health officials warn that prolonged high temperatures, humidity and limited night cooling increase the risk of heat‑related illness, especially for the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and people with chronic cardiovascular, respiratory, renal or neurological conditions. Symptoms such as headache, weakness, nausea, cramps, dizziness, confusion or loss of consciousness require prompt medical attention.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., stay in cool or air‑conditioned environments, wear lightweight clothing, protect their heads, and drink water regularly. The city’s “Piano caldo” activates a network of cooling centres and low‑cost meals for vulnerable citizens from 15 June to 15 September.
