19-8 Hospital successfully performs third stem cell transplant

19-8 Hospital (Ministry of Public Security) has successfully completed its third hematopoietic stem cell transplant, marking a significant milestone in the hospital's ability to master advanced medical procedures in Vietnam.

The patient, a 49-year-old male diagnosed with multiple myeloma, underwent the transplant on July 29. Following several rounds of chemotherapy to stabilize his health and collect stem cells, the transplant was performed to mitigate the risk of early relapse and manage the side effects of chemotherapy. After more than 20 days of monitoring, the patient was declared stable and discharged on August 18.

The successful procedure demonstrates the hospital's proficiency in managing the complex, multi-stage process required for stem cell transplantation, including patient assessment, stem cell collection and preservation, conditioning treatment, and specialized post-operative care.
