Two Young Tourists Killed in Fatal Scooter‑Car Crash on Elba Island
Two 23‑year‑old men from the Versilia area – Nicolò Guazzelli, originally from Massa and resident of Pietrasanta (Lucca), and Gabriele Seragini, born and resident between Pietrasanta and Seravezza (Lucca) – died in a traffic collision on 12 June. The victims were riding a rented scooter on Via dell’Acquedotto near the Portoferraio airport on Elba Island when the scooter lost control, entered the opposite lane and struck a car carrying a family of tourists.
One rider was killed instantly; the other was taken by helicopter to a hospital in critical condition and died shortly after despite resuscitation attempts. Emergency services – including the Misericordia, Public Assistance, the Red Cross and a regional air‑ambulance – attended the scene, and the Carabinieri opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of the loss of control. The victims’ bodies were transferred to the Portoferraio mortuary, families were notified, and the mayor of Campo nell’Elba visited the site.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities focusing on road conditions and rider behavior as possible factors.
