1935 Duesenberg SSJ wins Best of Show at Pebble Beach
A 1935 Duesenberg SSJ Special Speedster has been named Best of Show at the 2026 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The event marked the Diamond Jubilee, or 75th anniversary, of the prestigious classic car competition.
Owned by Harry Yeaggy of Cincinnati, Ohio, the vehicle is one of only two supercharged, short-wheelbase Duesenberg SSJs ever produced. The car carries significant historical weight, having previously been owned by Hollywood actor Clark Gable. Before Yeaggy acquired it three years ago, the vehicle had remained with a single family for more than sixty years.
Judge and curator Ken Gross described the vehicle as ‘the mightiest Duesenberg,’ noting that its elegance and sportiness met all the criteria for the top honor. While the win aligns with the Concours' tradition of celebrating interwar classic vehicles, Gross suggested that postwar winners might become more common in future years.
