1990s Rock Music Highlights: Iconic Covers and 1999 Hits

Three prominent 1990s bands recorded memorable cover versions of classic songs. Nirvana performed David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World” on MTV Unplugged in 1993, The Offspring covered the Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated” for a 2003 tribute album, and Soundgarden recorded the Beatles’ “Come Together” for the Echo Of Miles compilation.

Four notable rock tracks released in 1999 also left a lasting impression. Collective Soul’s “Heavy” topped charts from the album Dosage, Creed’s “Higher” became a second No. 1 single from Human Clay, Lenny Kravitz revived “American Woman” for his album 5, and Pearl Jam’s “Last Kiss” supported Kosovar refugee relief efforts.
