19‑year‑old donor’s organs save six patients in Chaco, Corrientes and San Juan
A 19‑year‑old donor from Chaco volunteered his organs, enabling a multi‑organ transplant operation coordinated by CUCAI Chaco at Hospital Dr. Julio C. Perrando in Resistencia. Six recipients received organs: a left kidney was transplanted into a 16‑year‑old girl from Chaco, a right kidney into a 38‑year‑old woman also from Chaco, a liver into a 16‑year‑old girl from San Juan, a heart into a 30‑year‑old woman from Corrientes, and two corneas were recovered for future sight‑restoring procedures.
The procedure involved teams from Hospital Garrahan, the Institute of Cardiology of Corrientes, Hospital Perrando and CUCAI Chaco, under the direction of the unit for organ procurement (UHPROT). CUCAI Chaco director Walter Bonfanti highlighted the donor’s generosity and the complex coordination required. This was the fifth multi‑organ donation operation in Chaco in 2026; 31 Chaco patients have already received transplants this year. Nationally, INCUCAI reported 1,163 transplants from 531 donors, with 7,386 people remaining on waiting lists.
