1Password acquires Israeli access‑management firm Apono

1Password announced the acquisition of Apono, an Israeli security company that provides a just‑in‑time access‑management platform. The technology lets enterprises grant temporary, controlled access to sensitive systems, reducing exposure when privileged accounts are compromised. Apono’s customers include Intel, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Workday, and the platform supports AI‑agents by requiring natural‑language justification for access and allowing automatic rights adjustment.

The acquisition will see Apono’s capabilities integrated into 1Password’s Unified Access product line, which was launched earlier this year. In parallel, 1Password introduced a closed‑beta Credential Broker that offers an encrypted vault for passwords, API tokens and other credentials, equipped with its own just‑in‑time mechanism for AI‑agents.

The move broadens 1Password’s portfolio beyond password management into broader identity and access security for both human users and autonomous agents.
