1Password launches platform for secure AI agent logins
AgileBits, the developer of 1Password, has announced ‘1Password for Agents’, a new platform designed to allow personal AI agents to log into websites and services without ever accessing the user’s actual passwords or one-time codes.
Under this system, an AI agent identifies itself to 1Password using a unique digital key. When an agent encounters a login screen, it requests authentication from 1Password. Once the user approves the request on their own trusted device, 1Password securely inputs the credentials into the login form. This mechanism ensures that the agent only receives the result of a successful login, preventing the AI from gaining permanent access to sensitive account information.
The platform aims to facilitate the growing use of autonomous AI for complex tasks such as travel booking and online shopping. 1Password is collaborating with major industry players, including Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX’s Grok Bot, to create seamless integrations.
Individual and Family plan users on 1Password.com will receive this upgrade at no additional cost, though users on 1Password.eu and 1Password.ca hosted plans are currently excluded from the free upgrade.
