1st Primary School of Diavata faces dangerous conditions

The Parents and Guardians Association of the 1st Primary School of Diavata has raised urgent alarms regarding the “tragic and dangerous condition” of the facility, which serves 225 children.

According to the association, the school suffers from severe structural and maintenance issues, including fallen plaster exposing construction steel, mold in toilet walls, broken mirrors and sinks, and faulty locks. There are also reports of broken window security, lack of window insulation, and burnt-out lighting in both interior and exterior areas, which has reportedly led to instances of vandalism.

The association claims that despite providing keys to the Delta Municipality over the summer and sending detailed emails regarding these issues, no significant repairs were made. They stated that “the Municipality did not send anyone all summer and the school was left to its own devices.”

While parents and local businesses previously donated equipment to create an IT room, the association noted that the room is currently underutilized due to insufficient hardware, specifically citing a need for more computers and a projector.
