1st Shock Police Battalion celebrates 62 years in Porto Alegre
The 1st Shock Police Battalion (BPChq) of the Brigada Militar celebrated its 62nd anniversary in Porto Alegre. During the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Rodrigo Betat Machado highlighted the unit's recent achievements, including a record number of firearm seizures. The battalion reported seizing 366 weapons in 2025 and more than 200 weapons since the start of 2026, which has contributed to a reduction in homicides.
In addition to combatting crime, the unit was noted for maintaining zero violence during football matches last year and assisting in the transition of command at the Jacuí State Penitentiary to the Penal Police. As part of the anniversary celebrations, several journalists, including Rádio Guaíba's Marcel Horowitz, were honored for their work in reporting on public security.
