2026 European Athletics Championships set for Birmingham, UK

The 27th European Athletics Championships will be staged in Birmingham, United Kingdom, from 10 to 16 August 2026 at the Alexander Stadium, which seats about 20,000 spectators. A record 1,645 athletes from 49 nations – 805 women and 840 men – are expected to compete across track, field and road events.

The programme includes a total prize fund of €500,000, with €50,000 performance bonuses for the top men’s and women’s point‑scoring athletes in each discipline group. Ten world champions from the 2025 Tokyo championships and seven Olympic champions from Paris 2024 are slated to take part. The Czech team has announced its nominations, while Austria’s ÖLV will send its largest ever squad of 24 athletes, matching the historic size of the 1954 Bern team.

Marathon and race‑walking events will be held on city‑center road courses, and the championships mark the first time the European Athletics Championships are hosted in the United Kingdom.
