2030 FIFA World Cup set for six‑nation, three‑continent hosting

FIFA has confirmed that the 2030 World Cup will be staged across six countries on three continents. Spain, Portugal and Morocco will serve as the primary hosts, while Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will each stage a centenary opening‑match to mark 100 years since the inaugural tournament in 1930. The opening games are slated for 8–9 June, with the main tournament running from 13 June to 21 July 2030. All six host nations receive automatic qualification. The competition will feature the 48‑team format used in 2026, but FIFA President Gianni Infantino has indicated that an expansion to 64 teams is under active discussion, which could increase the number of matches and reshape qualification dynamics. The unique multi‑continent arrangement aims to honour the sport’s history while delivering a globally distributed spectacle.
