2026 FIFA World Cup drives soaring hotel prices in New Jersey

In the run‑up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, hotels near the venue have posted sharply higher rates. The newly refurbished World of Blue hotel charges about $2,300 for a room on July 19 and $450 for a parking spot, with a discounted parking option at $383. By contrast, a two‑star Super 8 motel charges roughly $500 and Extended Stay America rates exceed $900 for the same night. A Marriott SpringHill Suites room reportedly spiked to $5,300 during the third week of July.

Occupancy remains low despite expectations of a fan influx. World of Blue reports 8‑30% occupancy for group‑stage matches and only 4% of its rooms booked for the final, with a single parking space reserved. Industry analysts cite astronomical ticket prices, high airfare and a shortage of affordable lodging as key factors. Some budget hotels have begun lowering rates for early matches, while higher‑end properties keep prices elevated. Fans are expected to stay in nearby New York City and travel to the stadium by shuttle or rideshare, as walking the surrounding roadways is deemed illegal and dangerous.
