2026 FIFA World Cup drives surge in Tinder usage

Data from Tinder show a significant rise in activity during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is being hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada. In the United States, the app’s usage grew by more than 15% compared with the same month in 2025, while swipe activity rose 25% and mutual matches jumped 60%.

Overall international usage increased by 47% between June 11‑16, the tournament’s opening week, with especially strong growth in host‑city regions. In the New York‑New Jersey area, where the final will be played, international user activity rose 34%. Mexican cities also saw spikes – Monterrey recorded an 80% increase and Guadalajara a 74% rise – as matches were hosted there. Tinder’s “Passport Mode”, which lets users search from any location, saw heightened adoption in these hotspots.

The surge reflects the broader social effect of the World Cup, where collective enthusiasm lowers social barriers and encourages people to seek new connections through dating apps.
