2026 Film Festival Winners and Oscar Contenders

The 2026 film festival circuit has produced several notable winners that are currently positioned within the Academy Award conversation. At Sundance, Josephine Beth de Araújo’s U.S. Competition winner is scheduled for a late November theatrical release, currently holding the 26th spot in combined Oscar odds.

In Europe, the Berlin winner ‘Yellow Letters’ remains eligible for Best International Film despite German submission choices, while Romania’s submission for the category is Cristian Mungiu’s ‘Fjord’, which is competing for Best Picture and International Feature spots. Venice’s Golden Lion winner, ‘Woman Unknown’ directed by May el-Toukhy, has seen fluctuating support since its win.

In the documentary category, Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s film ‘You Can See Everything’ has become a cinematic phenomenon. The three-hour Elizabeth Holmes documentary has reached record-breaking heights, becoming one of the highest-grossing documentaries of all time following its expansion into thousands of domestic theaters.
