Paul McCartney joins debut nominees on 2026 Mercury Prize shortlist
The 2026 Mercury Prize shortlist was announced, naming twelve albums by British and Irish artists. Notably, 84‑year‑old former Beatle Paul McCartney received his first ever nomination for his solo album *The Boys of Dungeon Lane*, joining first‑time nominees Jade, RAYE, Dove Ellis and Knats. Returning artists include Dave, Florence + the Machine, Suede, Olivia Dean, Nia Archives, and the charity compilation *HELP(2)*.
The awards ceremony will be held on 22 October at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle – the second consecutive year the prize has moved outside London. The prize, established in 1992, awards £25,000 to the album judged to have the greatest musical merit, irrespective of commercial success.
