2026 Surveys Reveal Bucharest Dissatisfaction and EU Economic Priorities

A CURS poll of 1,073 Bucharest residents conducted 22‑25 April 2026 shows strong public unease. Seventy‑four percent say Romania is heading in the wrong direction and 63 % believe the capital is on the wrong track. Traffic congestion is the top‑ranked problem (27 % of respondents), followed by taxes (13 %) and street conditions (12 %). Voting intention for the upcoming local elections points to PSD at 22 %, PNL at 20 % and AUR at 20 %, with 54 % calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

A separate YouGov survey across six EU member states indicates that, while citizens are concerned about geopolitics, economic pressure and ecological risks, none of these issues dominates public opinion. Economic issues remain the primary priority for the majority of Europeans.
