2026 US Open Golf Field Confirmed with Added Alternates
The 2026 US Open golf championship will be played at the historic Shinnecock Hills Golf Club with a field of 156 players. Leading contenders include Scottie Scheffler, who seeks the career Grand Slam, and Rory McIlroy, who aims for a second Grand Slam after his 2011 victory.
The USGA completed the roster by adding alternates after the RBC Canadian Open, filling seven open spots with Bud Cauley, J.T. Poston, Harry Higgs, Hennie Du Plessis, Jack Schoenberger, Spencer Tibbits and Bryan Lee. The organization keeps the priority order of its alternate list confidential and contacts players as vacancies arise.
Sectional qualifying, which concluded on June 8, supplied roughly 50 players, while the remaining positions were allocated through world‑ranking exemptions and the alternate list. Broadcast coverage begins on Thursday, with live transmissions on Sky Sport Deutschland at 12:30 p.m. for the first two days, moving to later afternoon slots for the weekend rounds.
