2026 Volta a Portugal cycling race to start in Lisbon and finish in Porto

The 87th edition of the Volta a Portugal will run from 5 to 16 August 2026, beginning with a six‑kilometre prologue in Lisbon and concluding with a circuit in Porto. The race will cover 1 388 km over ten stages, including a team time trial, two mountain finishes at the Torre in Serra da Estrela and at the Senhora da Graça sanctuary in Mondim de Basto, and new long routes through the Alentejo and Algarve regions.

International squads such as the UAE Emirates team, which fields four‑time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar, will join ten Portuguese teams. Portuguese riders Rui Oliveira and Iúri Leitão are also entered. The event will be directed for the first time by Spanish former pro Ezequiel Mosquera and will be broadcast internationally live on HBO Max, with domestic coverage on RTP 1.

One of the highlighted stages will start in Vieira do Minho, traverse the Peneda‑Gerês National Park and feature an unprecedented double ascent to the Senhora da Graça sanctuary, a move expected to boost tourism and local economies along the route.
