2026 World Cup prompts Brazil firms and venues to shift hours as Group B and D open with Canada‑Bosnia and USA‑Paraguay
Brazilian companies and public entities are adjusting operating hours for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Brazil’s group‑stage matches will be played at night due to the time‑zone difference with the host nations (United States, Canada and Mexico). Shopping malls, supermarkets, retailers such as Casas Bahia, Magazine Luiza and Grupo Pão de Açúcar, as well as banks and federal offices, plan early closures, flexible schedules or televised screens so employees can watch the games. A Serasa Experian survey found that 88 % of Brazilians view companies more favorably when they accommodate match timings.
The tournament’s opening group‑stage fixtures begin Friday, with Group B’s Canada versus Bosnia‑Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium (16:00) and Group D’s United States versus Paraguay at Los Angeles Stadium (22:00). Additional matches include Qatar vs Switzerland in San Francisco (Saturday, 16:00) and Australia vs Turkey in Vancouver (early Sunday, 01:00). These games set the stage for the rest of the World Cup schedule.
