2027 ICC Cricket World Cup preparations intensify as South Africa hosts and India eyes veteran pacer

The 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup will be co‑hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October‑November 2027. South Africa’s head coach Shukri Conrad said the Proteas are determined to win the country’s first 50‑over title, noting the demanding home summer that includes series against Australia, Bangladesh and England. Conrad added, “When I looked at the trophy from a distance tonight, I thought, ‘Ya, I’d love to get my hands on that.’ We owe it to the country and we are hell‑bent on delivering.”

In India, veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who last played an ODI in January 2022, received backing from spin great Ravichandran Ashwin for a place in the 2027 squad. Ashwin said, “He is a yes… we’ll need him on the South African pitches.” The discussions highlight both host preparations and team selections ahead of the tournament.
