2027 solar eclipse drives surge in European and Egyptian tourism

Reservations for the total solar eclipse occurring on August 2, 2027, are surging across Europe and North Africa. Astronomers describe the event as the “eclipse of the century,” noting it will be the longest observable eclipse until 2114. In Egypt, where the maximum phase will occur, the eclipse is expected to last six minutes and 23 seconds.

Travel demand is significantly impacting the tourism sector. easyJet reports a 70% increase in bookings from British passengers to key eclipse locations, including Egypt, Gibraltar, and Spain. In Spain, regions such as Seville, Almeria, and Malaga have seen a 69% rise in reservations. In Seville, 87% of accommodation for early August 2027 is already unavailable, while Gibraltar has seen 98% of its properties booked.
