The rumor cited alleged creative differences involving franchise creator Ridley Scott and a desire to cast Michael Fassbender as David, as well as potential conflicts over the inclusion of the *Prometheus* character.

20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell responded to the claim on X with a single word, “Nope,” effectively debunking the cancellation story. Asbell’s reply was shared by writer‑director Brian Duffield, who had been linked to a separate *Alien* film for the studio. Director Fede Álvarez confirmed that the sequel’s screenplay was finished but said he would not return to direct, opting instead to stay on as a producer.
