Amposta Drowning Tragedy Claims 21-Year-Old

A 21‑year‑old man died after jumping into the Canal de la Dreta de l'Ebre from the Pont de Pedra bridge in Amposta, Tarragona. The Catalan fire brigade (Bombers de la Generalitat) activated a large rescue operation with 14 units and 31 firefighters, supported by a SEM‑sanitized medical unit, two command teams, the underwater GRAE unit and a drone squad. Search teams initially swept the canal downstream to the Illa de Buda, then narrowed the effort to the first few kilometres and secondary channels. At 04:03 a.m. the body was recovered about 7.5 km downstream from the bridge. The regional police force, Mossos d'Esquadra, took charge of the investigation and the body’s removal. This incident is the 25th drowning death recorded in Catalonia since the summer bathing campaign began on 15 June.
