21st Engineer Regiment undergoes command change in Caserta
A command change ceremony was held at the ‘Amico’ barracks in Caserta for the 21st Engineer Regiment. Colonel Romano Ventura is stepping down after more than two years in command to take on a new role at the Italian Army General Staff. He is succeeded by Colonel Emanuele Amicarella.
During his tenure, the regiment was involved in several operations, including ‘Strade Sicure’, ‘Stazioni Sicure’, and ‘Terra dei Fuochi’, providing security and combating environmental crimes in the Naples and Caserta areas. The unit also performed technical tasks such as the disposal of World War II era explosives and the demolition of illegal structures, including work at the Palazzo Fienga in Torre Annunziata.
Colonel Ventura also focused on training innovations, specifically regarding covered trench systems and the use of drones to support engineer activities. The ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Francesco Ferrara, commander of the ‘Garibaldi’ Bersaglieri Brigade, along with various military and civil authorities.
