24 Hour Home Care announces 738 layoffs in California

Los Angeles-based 24 Hour Home Care has announced the permanent layoff of 738 workers, effective September 15. The provider, which supports veterans and people with disabilities, attributed the decision to Health Net’s plan to eliminate Personal Care and Homemaker Services (PCHS) starting January 1, 2027.

This move is part of a broader trend of workforce reductions within the California healthcare sector. Other recent cuts include 95 layoffs at Stanford Health Care affecting IT and digital health roles, 75 positions at John Muir Health, and 150 positions at UC Irvine Health due to strategic restructuring. Additionally, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health recently closed clinical services at seven locations following a $50 million funding deficit.
