28‑year‑old tourist found dead in Antalya hotel room as hazardous chemicals discovered

In late June, 28‑year‑old Orhan Akyol, who had traveled from Ankara to Antalya for a vacation, was found dead in a suite at a hotel in the Konyaaltı district. Hotel staff entered the room after receiving no response to a "Do Not Disturb" sign and discovered his body on a bed.

Police, health workers and the Antalya Crime Bureau were dispatched. Inspectors noted two sealed containers beside the body—one holding a liquid, the other a solid. The liquid was later identified by AFAD’s hazardous‑materials team as a solution of hepta deka floor octane sulfonic acid. AFAD personnel entered the room wearing protective KBRN gear and conducted chemical measurements.

The deceased was taken to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Investigators are treating the case as a possible poisoning or chemical exposure and the enquiry remains ongoing.
