2nd Infantry Division of the Polish Army honored in Warsaw

A commemorative ceremony was held in the Bielany district of Warsaw to honor the soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Polish Army. The event focused on the division's efforts during the Warsaw Uprising in September 1944.

Under the command of General Berling, the soldiers attempted to cross the Vistula River near the Żoliborz bridgehead on September 17, 1944, to support the fighters in the capital. Despite facing well-equipped German forces, the soldiers fought with determination for several days before receiving orders to withdraw to the Praga side of the river by September 23.

The ceremony served as a moment of reflection on the bravery and sacrifice of the troops, highlighting their commitment to Polish independence despite the difficult military circumstances and the uncertainty of the country's future political landscape.
