31 migrants abandoned in modified truck in California desert

U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered 31 migrants abandoned in a modified utility truck near Ocotillo, California. The vehicle featured a concealed double-bottom compartment used to transport individuals in cramped, unventilated conditions.

According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot across the border into Mexico upon noticing authorities. Mexican authorities subsequently arrested the driver within their territory, though specific charges and circumstances of the arrest have not been detailed.

The migrants were exposed to extreme desert heat in the Imperial Valley. While authorities have taken the group into custody, they have not yet released information regarding the nationalities, ages, or medical status of the individuals, specifically whether any required treatment for dehydration or heatstroke.
