325 families receive land titles in Várzea Grande, Brazil

At a ceremony in the Jardim Manaíra neighbourhood of Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, 325 families were handed definitive land titles, ending waiting periods that in many cases stretched up to three decades. The event, held at the Ednilson Francisco Kolling Municipal School, is part of the Solo Seguro Favela programme, which aims to regularise informal settlements.

The programme has secured R$15 million in investments, including R$7.5 million returned by the Mato Grosso State Legislature under Deputy Eduardo Botelho (MDB). Governor Otaviano Pivetta and Mayor Flávia Moretti jointly highlighted the project’s role in providing legal security, increasing property values and enabling municipal investment in infrastructure, health and leisure facilities. Residents expressed relief and gratitude after years of uncertainty.

The land‑regularisation effort is being coordinated with the state judiciary, public prosecutor’s office, public defender’s office, municipalities and notary services, signalling a continued commitment to expanding documentation for families across the state.
