34‑year‑old Nigerian man drowns in Italy's Brenta River

On the evening of 1 August 2026, a 34‑year‑old man of Nigerian origin died after drowning in the Brenta River near the Brenta Viva park in Fontaniva, Padua province. His friends, who were swimming with him, raised the alarm around 20:45 when he failed to return. The local fire‑brigade unit (Vigili del Fuoco) from Cittadella arrived, recovered the body from a whirlpool‑formed eddy, and handed it to emergency medical services, which were unable to revive him.

Police (Carabinieri) are conducting investigations to determine the circumstances that led the man into the water. The incident was verified by local authorities and reported by the fire‑brigade’s official channels.
