Plovdiv murder of Georgi Kuzev by teenage group

On 4 August 2026, 37‑year‑old Georgi Kuzev of Krichim was lured to Youth Hill (Mladzhki Hill) in Plovdiv via a fake social‑media profile and beaten to death by a group of five teenagers aged 14‑17. The assault lasted more than an hour and included severe injuries – skull‑brain trauma, organ ruptures, broken ribs, lung, liver and kidney damage, cigarette burns, shaved eyebrows and Nazi symbols drawn on his body. Kuzev died several hours later in hospital. Five suspects (three boys and two girls) have been charged with intentional murder with aggravating circumstances and placed in pre‑trial detention by the Plovdiv District Court. Bulgarian law allows 5‑12 years imprisonment for minors 16 and older and 3‑10 years for younger offenders in such cases. The case has sparked widespread public outrage, statements from the mayor of Krichim and Vice‑Premier Ivo Hristov, and extensive commentary from lawyers, psychologists and media analysts.
