3iQ Partners with Bhutan's Gelephu City to Manage Bitcoin Treasury

On July 30 2026, Canadian digital‑asset manager 3iQ announced a strategic partnership with Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a special administrative region in southern Bhutan. 3iQ will receive a dedicated mandate to manage an undisclosed portion of GMC’s Bitcoin reserves, which stem from a national pledge made in December 2025 to allocate up to 10,000 BTC to the city’s development.

The agreement includes a long‑term local presence for 3iQ, investment in Bhutanese talent, and knowledge‑transfer programmes to build a next‑generation, institutional‑grade digital‑asset fund ecosystem. 3iQ chief executive Pascal St‑Jean said the firm will put Bhutan’s capital to work “responsibly, transparently and for the long term.” GMC board director Jigdrel Singay called 3iQ a founding institutional partner for the city’s ambition to become a digital offshore financial hub.

3iQ operates under the Coincheck Group, a Nasdaq‑listed company, and will help GMC establish a regulated infrastructure for tokenised assets, on‑chain settlement and compliant trading. The exact size of the managed Bitcoin portion, custody arrangements and investment strategy were not disclosed.
