3M recalls 53,000 Scotch thermal laminators over fire risk
3M is recalling more than 53,000 Scotch-brand thermal laminators (model TL1302Z) due to risks of overheating, smoking, and catching fire. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported 63 incidents of units melting or overheating, including five reports of fires and one instance of minor property damage. While no injuries have been reported, the agency warned that the fire hazard could lead to serious injury or death.
The affected units were sold exclusively on Amazon between June 2024 and September 2026, priced between $44 and $56. The machines are light gray and white with gray accents, a 13-inch-wide laminating slot, and a carrying handle on the right side.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the devices and unplug them. To obtain a full refund, users must contact 3M via telephone or their website to complete a registration form, which requires uploading a photo of the unit with its power cord cut. After verification, 3M will issue a refund check. Users should dispose of the units according to local electronics recycling laws.
