4-year-old boy rescued after drowning in Grieskirchen swimming pool

On August 4, 2026, a 4-year-old Czech boy fell into a pool at a leisure centre in the Grieskirchen district of Austria and was found unresponsive. A 35‑year‑old woman from the Hartberg district pulled the child from the water and began CPR. A 39‑year‑old man from the Melk district assisted, and together they revived the boy, who regained consciousness on site. After initial first‑aid, the child was air‑lifted by a rescue helicopter to a hospital for monitoring, accompanied by his father.

The incident highlights the importance of immediate action and supervision in swimming areas, with authorities urging parents and caregivers never to leave children unattended in pools.
