46-year-old woman transferred from UK to face Marfin arson charges in Greece
A 46‑year‑old woman, who lived in Brixton, United Kingdom for six years and is a mother of two, was arrested at London’s Gatwick Airport on 13 July after an Interpol red notice was issued by Greek authorities. She was escorted by a special unit of the Greek police – often referred to as the “Greek FBI” – and flown to Athens, where she was held overnight in the General Police Directorate (GADA) detention facilities.
On Friday she is scheduled to be presented before the Athens public prosecutor, where the international arrest warrant will be executed and she will then be transferred to the investigating magistrate handling the 2010 Marfin Bank arson case. The investigation attributes a supportive role to her during the May 5 2010 attack that killed three bank employees, including a pregnant woman. Two other suspects, both 42‑year‑old men, are already in custody.
The woman maintains her innocence, stating she had no involvement in the arson and is prepared to give her version of events to the authorities.
