Abrapp Congress discusses expanding private pension access in Brazil

The 47th Brazilian Congress of Private Pension (CBPP), organized by Abrapp, concluded in São Paulo with approximately 5,000 participants attending both in-person and online. The event focused on strategies to expand complementary pension coverage, addressing the challenges of an aging population and changing labor relations.

A key highlight was the discussion on micropensions, a project aimed at including informal workers and digital platform laborers who often have variable incomes and fall outside traditional contribution models. Devanir Silva, president of Abrapp, emphasized the need for a pension project that balances financial sustainability with social protection.

Additionally, experts discussed behavioral techniques to increase participation. David Laurent, Chief Behavioral Officer at Novaster, presented findings on ‘Quick Enrollment’—a method where employees are provided with pre-selected contribution rates and investment funds. This approach, similar to automatic enrollment regulated in Brazil, has been shown to significantly increase plan adherence by simplifying complex decision-making processes.
