4iG Group to bring direct satellite connectivity to Western Balkans

The 4iG Group aims to become the first company in the Western Balkans to enable direct satellite connectivity with mobile devices. This initiative follows a partnership agreement signed with the American company SpaceX in September.

Pál Zarandi, Chairman of the Board of ONE Macedonia and Strategy Director at 4iG Group, announced the ambition during the eighth Western Balkans Digital Summit in Herceg Novi. The group is developing digital infrastructure across Hungary, Montenegro, and Albania, while also establishing a new mobile operator in North Macedonia through ONE Macedonia Telecommunications.

Testing for direct satellite-to-device connectivity is planned to begin soon in Hungary and Albania in collaboration with universities. While technical requirements are met, Zarandi noted that establishing the necessary legal and regulatory frameworks remains the primary challenge for commercial implementation.
