5-year-old autistic boy João Gabriel found dead after three-day search in Paraná
João Gabriel Ferreira dos Santos, a 5-year-old child with autism spectrum disorder who was non‑verbal and required level‑2 support, disappeared on the morning of Sunday, 26 March in the rural area of Araucária, part of the Curitiba metropolitan region in Brazil. The case was entered into the Amber Alert Brazil system, a tool of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security run in partnership with Meta, which broadcast alerts to users of Facebook and Instagram within a 160‑km radius.
A multi‑agency force‑task, involving about 150 volunteers, firefighters, police officers and other officials, launched an intensive search that covered roughly three square kilometres of dense vegetation, farms, tanks and ponds. The operation employed drones with thermal cameras, sonar equipment, technical divers, two aircraft (Arcanjo 01 of the fire service and Falcão 08 of the military police), search dogs and ten ground vehicles. After three days, João Gabriel’s body was recovered on Tuesday, 28 March in a tank near the property where he was last seen.
