5-year-old Karan Aydınlısoy survives shooting in Istanbul

On 7 July, 5‑year‑old Karan Aydınlısoy was playing in a pool at a friend's house in Beylikdüzü, Istanbul, when a high‑velocity air‑rifle bullet struck his back. The projectile shattered his lung and lodged near the main artery to his heart. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, placed in intensive care and fought for 16 days before being discharged on 22 July 2026. Doctors plan to operate in about three weeks to remove the bullet.

Police arrested a 17‑year‑old suspect who had fired the rifle. The boy’s parents, Cenk and Naz Aydınlısoy, described the incident and the emergency response, noting the severity of the injuries and the ongoing medical treatment required.
