55 women murdered in Chihuahua in 2024, 16 classified as femicides
In the Mexican state of Chihuahua, authorities report that 55 women have been killed so far this year. Of those deaths, 16 are classified as femicides and the remaining 39 as intentional homicides, according to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Women Victims of Gender‑Based Crime (FEM).
Recent cases include a woman in her early thirties found dead on a rural road in the capital city, and two women in Ciudad Juárez discovered shot to death inside a home in the Flores Magón‑Libertad neighborhood. Additional investigations are treating the latest three cases as femicides. Earlier in the year, murders were recorded in Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, Guadalupe y Calvo, Hidalgo del Parral, and other municipalities, with March being the most violent month.
Other notable incidents involve the discovery of Yadira Janeth B. P., 36, whose body was found in a stroller and later determined to have died from strangulation, and the killing of Lucía Guadalupe Mora Ávalos, a 53‑year‑old Morena leader, who was shot in Valle de Allende. The FEM office and state officials have lamented the rise in gender‑based violence and called for improved security measures.
