Brazilian public backs US terror label for PCC and CV

A Datafolha poll of 2,004 adults in 139 Brazilian municipalities found that 59% of respondents agree, wholly or partly, with the United States’ decision to designate the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and the Comando Vermelho (CV) as terrorist organisations. 45% fully support the classification and 14% support it partially, while 22% fully reject it and 11% reject it partially.

At the same time, 74% of those surveyed reject any U.S. military or security action against the gangs on Brazilian soil without the Brazilian government’s approval. The poll also revealed strong partisan and demographic divides: 81% of voters who backed Jair Bolsonaro in 2022 support the U.S. label, versus 38% of Lula voters. Men, evangelicals and younger respondents (16‑44) show the highest backing, with 70% of evangelicals in favour.

Half of respondents (50%) believe the U.S. aims to help Brazil by targeting the gangs, while 47% view the move as a pretext for American influence. 54% think senator Flávio Bolsonaro influenced the U.S. decision; of those, 57% see his impact as negative and 37% as positive. The survey reports a margin of error of ±2 percentage points.
