5G Fixed Wireless Access shipments projected to reach 16 million units by 2026
Global 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) shipments are projected to reach 16 million units in 2026, according to a GSA market survey. This represents a rise from 12 million units in 2025 and indicates that 5G will account for approximately 69 percent of the total FWA device market by 2026. The growth is driven by the adoption of 5G Standalone (SA) networks, with SA-capable equipment shipments expected to grow 34 percent to 15.4 million units.
In the broader broadband access equipment market, second-quarter 2026 revenue reached $4.5 billion, a 3 percent year-over-year decline. While FWA CPE unit shipments saw a 12 percent year-over-year decrease—largely due to a slowdown in North American sales—other sectors showed growth. Residential Wi-Fi 7 router shipments increased 62 percent year-over-year, fueled by demand in China, Southeast Asia, and the United States. Additionally, cable operators reported a 63 percent year-over-year revenue jump in Remote PHY and Remote OLT platforms as they modernize networks.
